Samsung turn up to Gamescom 2023 with plenty of goods to show off. We’ve already known about the impressive 57″ Neo G9 for some time now, but it has finally seen the light of day and is ready for its pre order stage. However, one (quite big) side note is that we’ve seen Samsung announce an upgraded Odyssey Ark model.

We were lucky to conduct a Samsung Odyssey Ark review for the original model at the back end of last year, and it has definitely proven its worth as a great monitor for work – as our time spent with it navigating endlessly-scrolling spreadsheets has shown. Of course though, the Ark should be seen as a champion of entertainment and gaming as well, but user complaints show that some features were lacking. It looks like Samsung are quick to respond though.

Samsung announce new upgraded Odyssey Ark 55 inch monitor

Alongside the impressive new 57″ Odyssey Neo G9, Samsung have unveiled the refreshed Odyssey Ark and you can read more about it in their official news release. The brand-new model returns with all the impressive specs we know and love, such as the large 55″ screen, immersive 1000R curvature and stunning 4K resolution. As well as the 165Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time.

That being said, Samsung have made some important changes to the monitor, which they note have ‘taken the new Ark to the next level based on gamers’ feedback’. As you can see, the criticism has clearly made a difference and Samsung have come back stronger because of it.

Complaints about the original Samsung Odyssey Ark

Now let’s get to what was making users complain about the original Samsung Odyssey Ark. First and foremost, we can agree that the quality of the display and the sheer size is something to be impressed by, as one user review from MidKnight remarks – but even they admit that the limited number of inputs and lack of multiscreen support is a real shame.

Another user, Jay W, was less than impressed by the display in their one star review. Even if they may have been impressed by the display itself, the lack of compatibility for 4 different devices at once is a ‘real deal breaker’. We would have to agree! And it makes sense, such a large display should be supporting multiple inputs on display at the same time.

Samsung’s comment response probably didn’t heal the pain, but their new announcement should have.

The big news to come from this announcement is of course the multi view possibilities. Namely, the new 2023 Odyssey Ark (G97NC) includes Samsung’s new Multi View, which means that users can view up to 4 inputs on screen at once. This is possible via three HDMI inputs and one DisplayPort 1.4 connection simultaneously. It’s also noted that the new DP port can support 4K UHD streams.

Furthermore, this new model has KVM switch support built-in. As Samsung describe it, the new Odyssey Ark can be seen as a ‘personal gaming theater’ as you can connect multiple devices and navigate between them seamlessly. In effect, you can now view & control all these devices at once with a single keyboard and mouse setup.

This year’s refreshed Ark model will be available in October, so we hope disgruntled users like Jay W can happily make the switch over.
