With the RTX 4060 set to meet its release date next week, many consumers are already less than impressed with its performance stats so far. Especially when compared to the massively popular RTX 3060 from the previous generation of Nvidia GeForce cards. That means you may want to hold off on figuring out where to buy on for the time being and round up some opinions.

We’ve spotted plenty of complaints around the web. Many users over on Reddit are quick to share their opinion as usual, and we’d have to say they have a good point.

RTX 4060 doesn’t impress ahead of launch

As we can see in this Reddit post which links out to a VideoCardz article, many commenters are clearly unimpressed with the early leaked benchmarks. For the high-end of the 40-series, the price was sky high. And now we’ve dropped down to the mid-range, the performance increase is less than impressive, even if the price is relatively improved. Nvidia can’t seem to impress right now.

One reddit user points out that, according to this benchmark, the RTX 4060 will be slower than the RTX 3060 Ti. That’s definitely disappointing for a generational gap. They go on to explain that we saw the 3060 Ti even outperform the likes of the previous-gen 2080 Super. It seems like Nvidia have had big change in plans for the 40-series – perhaps they’re focusing too hard on the architecture upgrades and leaving the hardware behind?

RTX 4060 leak shows it’s 18% faster than RTX 3060

Nvidia already revealed the important RTX 4060 specs during their reveal of the entire 4060 line-up. However, they put a lot of focus on the Ada Lovelace upgrades such as DLSS 3 frame generation, Tensor Cores, and RT Cores. That left many gamers wondering about the raw performance upgrades.

This early leaked benchmark from VideoCardz reveals that the card could be 18% faster than the previous-gen RTX 3060 – according to a Geekbench ranking. Just 18% faster seems like very little increase in between generation, though similar scores were actually reported between 20-series and 30-series in the past.

One thing we know for sure is that the reduction in VRAM from 12GB to 8GB from 3060 to 4060, and the associated memory issues, has left a sour taste for many people. Aside from the architectural upgrades, the RTX 4060 is super power efficient, so that’s one of the pros fans can cling on to. We all know that an upgrade from 3060 is 4060 is likely not worth it, but those of you working with a much older graphics card may still be interested in Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4060.
