The Apple AirPods 4 pre order date is possibly a mere few days away, although it could end up being a while off – see below for all the details we know about, plus the best suggestions at where to buy AirPods 4 earbuds when they come out.
Although the AirPods Gen 4 headphones have not yet even had their existence confirmed, most tech commenters from respected new outlets, including the likes of Forbes, are putting their money on a reveal of these new earbuds as very likely being at the Apple Event on the 12th of September. However, this does not necessarily mean we’ll see the AirPods 4 pre order date land as early as the probable iPhone 15 pre order date.
When is the likely 4th gen AirPods pre order date?
Looking at the below data, we can get some idea of a window of time in which the 4th gen AirPods could be available for pre order, though it’s not clear cut.

As can be gleaned through looking at the AirPods wiki page, there’s a varied pattern when it comes to previous AirPods pre order dates. The 1st generation of AirPods were first available to purchase over three months after they were first shown off, whereas the second were launched, made available to order, and hit the shelves all on the same day. The third generation had the pre orders go live as soon as the new earbuds were unveiled, but the release date followed on 8 days later.

Our AirPods Gen 4 pre order window prediction
We think it’s much more likely that we’ll see the staggered launch/pre-order/release date pattern we’ve seen with the iPhone releases with the AirPods Gen 4, as this would make most sense if Apple wants to encourage consumers to pickup some new headphones alongside their new iPhone purchase. As a result, we predict an AirPods Gen 4 pre order date as landing at some point between Tuesday 12th – Friday 15th September, with the latter being the more favorable in our opinion. The release date will probably then come at some point later in September, possible on Friday 22nd, which is when we think the new iPhone 15 release date will land. Still, time will tell!

Will you be able to pre order AirPods Pro 3 & AirPods Max 2?
It’s less likely that we’ll see the AirPods Pro 3 or the AirPods Max 2 unveiled at the Apple September Event, but not impossible. We expect the AirPods Max 2 release date to land in December (as with the previous entry in the series), which would mean we won’t likely see an AirPods Max 2 pre order until then. Similarly we expect the AirPods Pro 3 release date to probably come in late 2023/early 2024, and the pre orders to land at around the same time, but you never know, we could be pleasantly surprised!

The 4th generation of AirPods is expected to be unveiled at the Apple Wonderlust event on the 12th of September. Although Apple hasn’t confirmed this, most tech commenters believe it’s reasonably likely that we’ll see them at this keynote.

Although nothing yet has been confirmed by Apple, it’s possible that you’ll be able to pre order the new AirPods a few days after they’re revealed in mid-September – as is usually the case with new iPhones. On the other hand, we might have to wait a couple of months until we can buy one.
