Building on the progress made with the RX 6000 series, we eagerly anticipated the release date of the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT. This card had the potential to become a top choice in the graphics card market. As part of the RDNA 3 lineup, it aims to provide an excellent GPU option, especially considering the success of the RX 6800 XT.

The new card follows suit with great performance without the exorbitant price tag. Especially after the success and popularity of the RX 7900 XTX, which brings a good alternative to Nvidia’s lineup. The RX 7800 XT provides us with a cheaper alternative to the already-released Radeon flagship. So we look back to what it has provided and what its release was like.

Now that the initial cards have been launched with the RX 7900 cards on December 3rd, there is still the expectation of the rest of the lineup. Although more was expected from the launch, there is still more on the way most likely. It’s usually a few months between launches previously.

After a big spell of silence, we finally got the announcement at Gamescom 2023. With plenty of leaks and rumors beforehand, we finally got the full extent of what the new cards have to offer. But most importantly we know that the RX 7800 XT was released on the 6th of September alongside the RX 7700 XT.

RX 7800 XT specs

For the specifications, after plenty of talk, we got the official information from AMD as to what it has to offer. The 7800 XT is based on the Navi 32 chip. Which features TSMCs 5 and 6nm process that will be using the RDNA 3 graphics architecture.

The die itself may contain 128 compute units. Along with 8,192 or 10,240 stream processors.  Here we see some of the conflicts between sources on what the card holds in it. For the VRAM the 7900 XT may contain 16 or 20 GB of GDDR6, across a 192-bit bus. Which could possibly be clocked at 18 Gbps.

RX 7800 XT price

The RX 6800 XT, came out at a recommended price of $649 USD, and we thought that might be the starting price for the new model. However, AMD has become much more competitive against Nvidia’s 4070. The RX 6800 XT has a recommended retail price of $499, $100 less than the card it pipes itself against. If it can keep the performance up as AMD suggests in public benchmarks, it will certainly be the better value GPU in the range.
