The ASUS ROG Ally is finally here offering those in the market for a new gaming handheld a direct competitor to the Valve Steam Deck. That may lead you to believe that Steam games would be hard to get on the ROG Ally, but this isn’t the case. The ASUS ROG Ally is capable of running Steam, as it is a Windows 11 machine, basically a little handheld gaming PC.

Yes, the ASUS ROG Ally can run Steam games

Enjoying your library of Steam PC games on the ASUS ROG Ally is no problem at all. The new handheld device is also great for making use of your Epic Games Store and Xbox Game Pass too, as well as any other Windows-compatible gaming platforms you can think of (most of them, pretty much). Sadly, this console has no compatibility with Nintendo Switch games.

Downloaded games will automatically be imported to the Armoury Crate SE Game Library for seamless management. Please refer to Armoury Crate SE Introduction for more information.

You can also play Steam games on your ASUS ROG Ally through Nvidia GeForce Now too. There is no 5G support, however, there is Wi-Fi 6E.

It is also worth pointing out that if your joysticks and buttons are not working in the Steam desktop interface, it isn’t broken or buggy, these controls are designed for Steam’s Big Picture Mode. When using the ASUS ROG Ally in Steams desktop interface, open the command center and manually switch “Control Mode” top “Desktop Mode”. After doing so, your touchscreen, joysticks, and buttons can be used as a mouse to navigate the application.

Does the ASUS ROG Ally have my Steam library?

Since the ASUS ROG Ally has support for Steam, it of course gives you access to your Steam library. However you’ll still need to redownload any games you wish to play when setting up the ROG Ally for the first time, unless you upgrade your storage with a storage device which has your games already installed on. Either way, since this handheld device is running on Windows 11, the Steam games that you know and love will be compatible just the same as a Windows PC.

Keep in mind that the ASUS ROG Ally has 512GB of storage space built-in, so you may have to pick and choose which Steam games you want installed if the games you play regularly are particularly large in size. Like we said though, there is also the possibility to upgrade the storage.
