How to factory reset ASUS ROG Ally
The key to clearing out your ROG Ally is updates and BIOS. As ASUS makes it rather simple to achieve the reset without a need for much else after setting it up. So here are the steps you need to take.
- Plug in the ASUS ROG Ally to its 65W charger so it doesn’t power off during the whole process
- Update the BIOS – in the MyASUS app make sure any updates are done, specifically in the BIOS so it is up to date and has the latest software
- Boot into BIOS – there are a couple of methods to do so
- From the turned-off state, hold the volume down button and press the power button. Keep holding the volume button until you boot into BIOS
- From Windows you can reboot into the BIOS, heading to Settings > Recovery > Advanced Startup > Restart Now, when it reboots into the many, pick Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > UEFI > Firmware Settings
- Enter the advanced BIOS menu by pressing the Y button
- Head to the Advanced tab
- Choose the ASUS Cloud Restore and confirm
- Go through the process by connecting to WiFi and going through the setup, after which you’ll have a fresh device
Throughout the setup you may see a black screen flicker and the device reset a couple of times. But as long as you’re plugged in it will be fine and keep working. After which you’ll be free to use your ROG Ally from scratch.
