With a whole host of new OLED gaming monitors arriving from Samsung in 2024, there may be some confusion considering the identical naming convention of these fresh displays – so let’s compared 32″ Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 vs 34″ OLED G8. There are now going to be two Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 monitors on the market, with 32-inch and 34-inch variants. However, there’s much more to think about than just a couple of inches size difference – they have different resolutions, aspect ratios, and more to account for. We’ll be comparing all of these specs as well as features and price to give you a comprehensive look at how these two compare.
Deciding between a 4K gaming monitor and ultrawide gaming monitor may be a dilemma for you, especially for high-end gaming or productivity scenarios (or both). The OLED G8 now has both of these avenues covered, with the 32″ model being the newer of the two. Samsung has expanded their OLED range, but competition is fierce as Alienware is another brand to do so, with the 32″ OLED G8 vs AW3225QF being a very close comparison.

Even quickly glancing at the specs tells us a lot about the differences between these two gaming monitors. First off, they have different resolutions – the 32″ model is 4K and the 34″ model is a 1440p ultrawide at the 21:9 aspect ratio. Both are based on Samsung’s QD-OLED panel tech, but the newer 32-inch model has third-gen QD-OLED for overall brighter visuals with a maximum of 3,000 nits brightness, a decent improvement over the former 2nd-gen panel. The release of the 32″ OLED G8 represents one of the first flat OLED monitors from Samsung, while the older model features 1800R curvature – though this is often preferred for an ultrawide screen anyway.
Both the G80SD and G85SB have an ultra-quick 0.03ms response time as expected from OLED, but the newer 4K model benefits from a higher 240Hz refresh rate for smoother visuals. This is achieved via HDMI with some DSC (Display Stream Compression), while the older ultrawide features 175Hz which is natively achieved by both DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 at this resolution. The last thing to touch on is the screen coating, as the original OLED G8 is quite glossy, whereas Samsung advertise their ‘OLED Glare-Free’ tech for the new line-up which should improve viewing angles and reflection handling.
As far as features go, they’re quite similar. These two are more than just monitors – they feature some of Samsung’s smart features to create more of an all-in-one entertainment hub. This is commonplace for the high-end of the Odyssey range these days.
Starting with the 34″ G85SB model, it has Tizen OS to give you access to Samsung’s smart TV features, so you’re able to stream content and it’s easy to use thanks to the included remote control. One problem here though is that ultrawide content is not commonplace for movies or TV shows, so the extra screen space is nerfed back down to 16:9 in this scenario. It also comes with Samsung’s Gaming Hub for cloud gaming with the likes of Xbox Remote Play and Nvidia GeForce Now. Lastly, this monitor can be integrated with Samsung SmartThings for control of your smart home tech from the comfort of your desktop.
Moving on to the 32″ G80SD, and it features everything we’ve just mentioned above as expected. As a 16:9 4K display, it makes much better use of the smart TV access too – featuring the same resolution and aspect ratio as today’s TVs, so much more content is catered for this resolution (which is also more pixel-dense than the ultrawide’s 3440 x 1440). One new smart feature for the 32-inch though is Multi Control, which allows you to seamlessly connect Samsung devices for data transfer (image/text) with control via your mouse and keyboard.
Time to compare price, where we’ll have to do a little bit of speculation for the newer 32″ G80SD model given that it isn’t quite out yet. However, looking back to the 34″ OLED G8 we can see that it originally launched at $1,499 in December 2022, though you can snap one up for less than $1,000 these days when looking around (as we write this). Based on that and other previous models such as the 32″ 4K Neo G8, we also expect the G80SD to set you back around $1,500, so there may not be much between them in terms of MSRP.
However, given the age of the ultrawide model, it will likely always be cheaper – and much more available on the second-hand market if you’re interested in that at all. Both of them are high-end models, so it doesn’t come as a surprise to see this kind of price tag involved.

Deciding between 32″ G80SD and 34″ G85SB requires you to understand what you’re after. For the best visual fidelity for gaming / productivity and best support for 4K content such as your favorite TV shows and movies, then the newer 4K OLED G8 is the way to go. The large 32-inch 16:9 screen is immersive in its own right and the crispness of the OLED panel will undoubtedly impress.
However, the ultrawide OLED G8 remains a favorite for many if you want to make the switch over to a wider aspect ratio for an overall more immersive experience when gaming, especially with a curved panel. It’s worth taking note that this resolution is a little less taxing on your system as well, with around 5 million pixels on screen compared to 4K’s 8.3 million. This means better performance in-game when playing at native resolution – in other words, a higher frame rate to make better use of the high refresh rate.
Choosing between standard widescreen and ultrawide is somewhat of a preference – both models are top-notch. If you instead want even more screen real estate, then the OLED G9 is there for a 32:9 ‘super ultrawide’ experience and is your next jump up at 49 inches.
Both of these monitors are excellent for productivity reasons, though you may be surprised to hear that the newer non-ultrawide OLED G8 technically packs in more space thanks to its higher resolution. On the flipside though, the 21:9 aspect ratio of the offers a little extra room either side of the standard 1440p resolution and the wider curved panel may be preferred by some while working to help stay focused on screen, especially if you just want a single screen as opposed to a dual monitor setup.
While 4K does offer better text clarity and due to a higher resolution, cramming everything on a single 16:9 screen may be a little cluttered for you, which is where an ultrawide comes in, despite the lower amount of pixels. If you’re viewing multiple windows as once side-by-side, then ultrawide works great thanks to the greater horizontal space, though splitting your windows into quadrants in 4K can work well too.
