Do you want to build a strong Barbarian in Baldur’s Gate 3? Barbarians are powerful warriors who are great with multiple weapons and can fly into a furious rage to help them in combat. They typically have proficiency with a wide range of melee weapons, have a high strength, have decent wisdom and constitution scores. Typically, they are lacking in charisma and intelligence.

If you want to progress through the game using the art of intimidation as a weapon and be able to make any strength checks needed to survive, the Barbarian is right for you. This class works well with each of the allies you can obtain and will make you a very good damage dealer.

If you don’t want to build a Barbarian, you can always have Karlach take up the role of being the melee attack enthusiast. Just make sure the difficulty isn’t set too high or you might not have a fun time. This guide will show you how to build a Barbarian in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to build a Barbarian in Baldur’s Gate 3

Barbarian’s are damage dealers and, as such, they need a high strength score. It also helps to have decent dexterity and constitution scores. This is because Barbarians get to add their dexterity and constitution modifier scores to their armor class. Make sure to balance your stats wisely during character creation.

Best Barbarian Races

The following races make the best barbarians in Baldur’s Gate 3:

  • Shield Dwarf – Dwarves, in general, have different weapon proficiencies, darkvision, and Dwarven Resilience. The resilience gives you proficiency on saving throws against poison. Shield Dwarves also get proficiency with light and medium armour.
  • Gold Dwarf – Gold Dwarves get the regular Dwarf bonuses as well as bonus HP each time they level up, increasing your already larger health pool.
  • Zariel Tiefling – Tieflings get fire resistance and darkvision. Zariel Tieflings also get Thaumaturgy. This will grant you benefits on intimidation checks and make getting around the world a bit easier.
  • Githyanki – Githyanki don’t have subraces but the race gets proficiency with light and medium armour. Members of this race also get Astral Knowledge which grants them proficiency in all skills of a chosen ability.
  • Half-Orc – Half-Orcs have darkvision, savage attacks, and Relentless Endurance. Savage Attacks allows you to roll an extra die when you land a critical hit with a melee weapon attack. Relentless Endurance, on the other hand, allows you to regain on hit point instead of going down when you hit zero hit points.

Best Barbarian Subclass

  • Wildheart – Grants your rage various abilities based on which animal you choose to harness power from.
  • Wild Magic – Causes you to release a random magic ability each time you use your rage.
  • Berserker – Grants you extra attacks and an increased rage called Frenzy.

Between the three subclasses, we would recommend taking the Berserker subclass. This is because it grants you the abilities Frenzied Strike and Enraged Throw. Both of these are bonus actions that allow you to get an extra attack in. This is even better later on when you get more attacks.
