Is there a DM mode in Baldur’s Gate 3?
No, there is no Dungeon Master Mode available in Baldur’s Gate 3. While the game’s director, Swen Vincke, confirmed that mod support will be on its way in the Dropped Frames podcast, there will not be any DM Mode coming to the menus.
The reason stated for this is the game is simply too massive, and it’s too big of an undertaking for the Baldur’s Gate 3 team to do without losing focus on the core game. Larian Studios will support mods, and this includes any mod that allows you to play a DM Mode, but there will not be any official DM Mode from the developers.
While this isn’t what a lot of fans wanted to hear, seeing as Divinity Original Sin 2 had a Game Master Mode that allowed you to change the map and narrative to create their own campaigns, just as a Dungeon Master would in D&D, it’s understandable why this GM Mode will not be added. Baldur’s Gate 3 is a massive game, with plenty of ways to customize your experience, including:
- Romance Options
- Subclasses to choose from within classes
- Three different difficulties, including Explorer, Balanced, and Tactician mode
- Various combat encounters
- Change difficulty setting to set difficulty levels
While you won’t be able to tailor the details as specifically as you’d like in a DM game mode, you can still enjoy the game and the whole host of customization it brings to the RPG genre.
