Which path is better to choose between the Mountain Pass and Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3? You will go through various areas in your travels, such as the Goblin Camp, Grymforge, and the Zhentarim Hideout. However, which path will be more beneficial?

Throughout your journey, your companions, such as Shadowheart or Astarion, will judge you based on your choices with other NPCs. Some will be good, and others will result in a disagreeing cutscene. This guide will detail which path you should choose between the Mountain Pass and Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3

Which path should you pick between the Mountain Pass and Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3?

During your travels throughout the Forgotten Realms, you’ll come across choices that may be detrimental to how you experience the rest of the game. As a result, you may have reached the point nearing the end of Act 1 and are given a chance to decide if you want to use the Mountain Pass or Underdark to get to the Moonrise Towers. You can pick both paths; the Mountain Pass will be easier, while the Underdark will help you level up.

The Mountain Pass is the best path if you’re looking for the easiest way to reach the Moonrise Towers. This path is for scenic vistas, the Druid Grove, and vital quests such as Lae’zel’s Find a Cure. Apart from the Githyanki Creche quest, players will also meet a new companion called Karlach. However, this pathway will be riddled with Gnolls, though they won’t be too hard to defeat. Additionally, Minthara will join your party if you choose to side with the Goblins.

Of course, as you are heading into Act 2, you will meet stronger bosses. This is where the Underdark comes into play. While the Mountain Pass is the easiest, we recommend the Underdark. Here, players will be met with a challenge in which leveling up will be easier. You can also learn your pesky Tadpole problem, solve a puzzle, and meet Auntie Ethel. The Underdark will be hard to navigate, so ensure you have a torch to assist you.

Though if you like, you can complete the Underdark path before going through the Mountain Pass. You will level up, complete amazing quests, and continue the story without missing anything. Whichever pathways you take, both will eventually help you end up at the Last Light Inn, where you will begin Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3.

However, ensure that you do not advance the plotline of the Moonrise Towers quest too far. If you do, you will be unable to make your way back to the highlights of the Mountain Pass or intricate areas or the Grymforge route in the zone transition.
