Baldur’s Gate 3: How to prepare spells

If you want to prepare spells in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will first need to select a character who is a prepared spellcaster. The following classes are prepared spellcasters:

The following classes are not prepared spellcasters:

  • Ranger
  • Warlock
  • Bard
  • Sorcerer

Once you have selected a prepared spellcaster, press the inventory button at the bottom of your screen. This is the symbol next to the character’s portrait. Selecting this will open the character sheet/inventory screen menu. Once in this menu, select the spellbook button. This is the center button of the three at the top of the menu. This will bring you to the character’s spellbook.

Now that you are in the spellbook, select the spells that you don’t want. This will take them out of the book. Then, select a new list of spells to replace them. This will allow you to change out the spells currently equipped to the character for a whole new set of spells. This way you can add ritual spells or even select new spells as a result of your new level when you level up.

Some classes like wizards are able to learn additional spells from spell scrolls just like in Dungeons & Dragons. This will increase the number of available spells they have to choose from. You will get more active slots in your spellbook as your team members who are magic users level up.

Keep in mind that non-prepared casters can only change out their spells when they level up. Whatever spells you choose, you will be stuck with until that happens.
