Best melee weapons in Sons of the Forest

Cattle Prod – A stun weapon perfect for incapacitating but not killing mutants, the cattle prod comes in hand in multiple situations. The cattle prod/stun baton can be found in a pile of skulls near a cave by the lake that is connected to the sea.

Firefighter Axe – The firefighter axe is a large orange and red weapon that deals massive amounts of damage. Like the other axes on this list, the firefighter axe is incredibly useful for collecting wood and can easily protect you in dangerous melee battles.

Katana – Arguably the best blade in the game, the katana will cut through most cannibals, causing massive amounts of damage. If you’re prepared for a fight, you can grab it, deep inside a well-defended location hidden in a cave on the northern side of the island, just above the lake.

Chainsaw – Multipurpose like the Firefighter Axe, and just as deadly. Cut down trees and mutants alike The chainsaw is located in the same underground facility as the katana, only this time it is in a sort of theatre room. This room is located to the right, toward the exit of the swimming pool.

Best ranged weapons in Sons of the Forest

Pistol – The standard high powered ranged weapon in any survival game, and with some decent stopping power and reasonably high ammo drop. By following the markers on the protagonist’s GPS tracker. Head to the ocean, here will be an orange life raft visible at sea. Find it in there.

Shotgun – The shotgun is the most effective of ranged weapons in Sons Of The Forest, with a precise shot at close range having the stopping power to one-shot most enemies. The shotgun is located at a grave in the south-western side of the map. Check out the location on this guide here.

Crossbow – A step-up from the craftable bow in early game, the Crossbow is just as silent and effective, whilst also being more precise. Once the 3D printer room has been found and a maintenance key card acquired, players can access a room with plants inside. Passing through here and into the next room, players will find the crossbow in between bookshelves.

Molotov – Explosive with a large splash range. Molotovs do not have to be found and can be crafted using relatively simple ingredients: 1x vodka bottle and 1x cloth. These can be acquired in various places around the island, but typically camps and boxes.
