Counter Strike, is perhaps one of the greatest PC games of all time, but will it come to PS4? With the upcoming release date of Counterstrike 2 fast approaching, is Valve finally going to commit to fully supporting the legendary successor on the Playstation? Well that’s what we’re here to answer.

We know for sure, that it’s coming to steam, the beta is currently live across those who are already ranked in CS:GO, however big questions remain around support for other platforms. Unsurprisingly we don’t have a huge amount of information on whether it’ll launch on Epic Games, nor whether CS2 might be on the Xbox One, or Gamepass either.

Fans of the Counter-Strike series know that there is a console version CS: Global Offensive that became available on Xbox 360, and that this same game can be played on Xbox One and even Xbox Series X/S. Unfortunately, PlayStation console players haven’t received a port of the old game since its launch.

Since Counter-Strike 2 is a step forward for Valve, could the game come to more platforms? When the game releases, could it be on Xbox Series X/S? Could it also be a free game? Will it finally be available on the PlayStation platform? Is Counter-Strike 2 on PS4?

Will Counter Strike 2 come to PS4?

Unfortunately, there has been no word about a PS4 console port for Counter-Strike 2. This is definitely what console gamers didn’t want to hear. Since the game is made by Valve, CS2 probably won’t see a PS4 release and will likely only launch on PC, Linux, and MAC via the Steam platform. Yep sorry, no fragging noobs on the Nintendo Switch just yet.

While we cannot say with exact certainty that there won’t be a console release, it doesn’t look positive given Valve’s past track record with console releases. If Counter-Strike 2 does find its way to console, it will most likely go to Xbox first. Hopefully bot free.

There is currently an ongoing limited test run for those who wanted to try the game early. This showed off many of the game’s new mechanics and visuals, it certainly was a great way to get Counter-Strike fans excited for the game’s release. That and the fact all your CS:GO skins will move over on launch.

This limited test was only available on PC and was perhaps surprisingly also supported on Steam Deck as well (you’re laptop is probably fine, but if not, we’ve picked a few that will smash it). Thanks to the popularity of the franchise, there is a greater chance that it could be ported from the PC platform later on. If fans want this to happen, they may need to push for it.

Hardware Requirements?

As Counterstrike fans know, the game’s big appeal has been in its accessibility compared to other fps. You don’t need the ultimate gaming PC or the latest generation PS5 to get solid performance from the game. Valve hasn’t officially announced the system requirements just yet, but we’re closely monitoring the situation, and with some in-house testing, it’s fairly easy to make a good guess as to what you might be looking for for it.

Given Counterstrike’s history, it’s likely to be heavily CPU bound, perhaps more so than other titles in the series. Again high frame rates tend to lead to CPU bottlenecks, so making sure your CPU pick is up to scratch is crucial. Same goes for GPUs as well, if you’re running a high-refresh rate monitor, and are aiming to push that 300fps envelope to really get the most out of the game, you’ll want an epic GPU to pump those numbers up.

Seb, our in-house Counterstrike boffin, and GPU tester extraordinaire has done a full feature piece on the best graphics settings for CS2 as well, so if you’re curious, you can check out his work. He’s even done some preliminary testing on whether the GTX 1080 Ti will run it as well, all interesting stuff.

Counterstrike might not be the most graphically intense game but it still holds up, and CS2 looks no different. That said, don’t go into this expecting new levels of ray-tracing brilliance, or Nvidia’s DLSS 3.5 to unlock 500 fps for you or anything along those lines. At least not yet. Maybe one day we’ll get some advanced features like that, but we’re a way out from that right now.
