Fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of Diablo IV’s first season, and their waiting has now come to an end. The Season of the Malignant, the first season of Diablo IV, is launching, and with it, a host of new content.
From the new game mechanics including Malignant Hearts and Malignant Monsters to the seasonal blessings you’ll gain from the battle pass, there is plenty to do. You’ll be able to find all this new content ripe for the taking as soon as the season is live.

Is Season 1 of Diablo IV free?
Yes, the Season of the Malignant, Season One of Diablo IV, is completely free to play when it starts. You don’t have to spend any money to access the new playable content. However, there is a battle pass system, with different tiers:
- Free Battle Pass
- Premium Battle Pass
- Accelerated Battle Pass
The Free Battle Pass comes free with any licensed copy of Diablo IV, but both the Premium Battle Pass and Accelerated Battle Pass come at a price. The Premium tier costs 1,000 Platinum, equivalent to $10 / £8, and the Accelerated tier costs 2,800 Platinum, equivalent to $25 / £21.
With the paid tiers for the battle pass, you will be receiving special perks, such as skipping all 27 tiers of the Free Battle Pass and earning those rewards immediately, as well as the Coldiron Armor Set, Coldiron Barding Mount Armor, and the Warded Mustang Mount. The Accelerated Battle Pass comes with even more rewards, with 20 tier skips included and the On The Warpath emote.
The Premium and Accelerated tiers of the battle pass are not required to play through any of the content available in the Season of the Malignant but rather are just added bonuses like the exclusive armor set and cosmetics. You do not need to purchase them to unlock any of the new gameplay, as all of it is available to any player.
All of the playable content was added during the latest patch to Diablo IV, and when the season begins it will be made available to all players, free of charge.
