Creating turnovers is a good way to get easy offense and turn a game around in NBA 2K24. If you’re trailing, it’s a lot easier to make a comeback if you don’t even let the other team get a shot off. Getting a steal is the best way because play doesn’t stop and you can get out in transition. It’s a staple of good defense, but it’s not all that easy to do. Here’s how you can pull it off.

How do I steal the ball in NBA 2K24?

Getting a steal is all about timing. If you don’t time your swipe correctly, you will miss and allow the player to go right by you or commit a foul. When you think you can get one, there’s two ways to accomplish it. As usual, it’s either with buttons or a joystick.

If you’re using buttons, it’s the X button on Xbox, the cross button on PlayStation, NumPad 5 on the PC keyboard, and the Y button on Nintendo Switch. If not, you will need to flick the right stick down and your defender will swipe at the ball.

Using the steal button is easier, but you still have to do it correctly. Steals aren’t very common, as teams only get 5-10 in a game at most. Going for it, as mentioned, can have adverse effects. It can change momentum, but it can also ruin a defensive possession.

To do it properly, you need to choose the right time. It’s easier to do this in a player-locked game, like MyCAREER. A regular on-ball steal occurs when you’re the primary defender and you swipe the ball away.

You could call for an additional defender to come over and help with their defensive moves. It’s hard for any offensive player to ball handle with two defenders, and a steal can occur. The CPU might try to pass out and you can knock it away.

You can also stay in the passing lane and wait for a pass to come towards your open man, even though he’s not actually open. Press the steal button when the ball is in your line of sight and knock it loose. You can do this on an alley-oop by blocking the pass as well. If someone’s shooting, though, it can count as a block and not a steal.

Having a defensive badge, such as the interceptor badge, can help. Defensive attributes, like perimeter defense and steal, will also have an impact.
