The Yugioh Master Duel meta is a diverse one currently. For those who want to get to the top ranks of competitive play with no experience, it can be difficult. Well don’t worry, these guides will take you through Master Duels’ best decks, their goals, combos, and what you should be seeing at the end of your turns

The type of card in a deck will be broken down into a few categories:

Searcher – This card lets you search your deck for another card

Extender – This card will special summon itself or another card

Starter – A card that will begin your combo

Interrupter – A card that allows for interaction on your opponent’s turn, be this negate, destroy, or return a card to the hand.

Finisher – A card intended to finish up games by attacking

SH-I-D or I-D-S

A hybrid of three archetypes, Shaddoll, Invoked, and Dogmatika. IDS is a mix of powerful control cards and floodgates. All three decks have oppressive boss monsters that control the opponent’s field. They all have strong tools to remove your opponent’s monsters and negate their effects.

This deck is a very slow control-based deck. Taking your first few turns to stun your opponent and attack them on the following turn. This is also a hard deck to use, you need to understand 3 separate archetypes along with what tool you should be using to stop your opponent.

It’s basically chess if chess had a giant goth puppet named after the Abrahamic god, Catholics, and Anime boy renditions of real-world occultist Alister Crowley.

Shaddoll

A fusion deck that is powerful enough on its own but a nightmare when used with other decks. Shaddolls are designed to combat your opponent’s extra deck monsters by using their own powerful fusion monsters. This deck is actually a flip deck originally, using its effects to gain advantage over the course of the duel. If your opponent has Extra deck monster on the field your cards have effects to combat them, massively punishes your opponent for using the Extra deck.

Invoked

Another Fusion deck. The Invoked are a supplementary archetype. Designed to work along with other decks and here is where they shine. The Invoked Fusion monsters are a great series of utility monsters, each with useful effects that can give you the upper hand depending on what your opponent has. They also come with a useful resource loop meaning you will never run out of fusion spells.

Dogmatika

The newest part of this strategy. Originally called Dragma in the OCG, why its name was changed we may never know. This time with no extra deck monsters that you actually summon, instead the Dogmatika cards are anti-extra deck much like the Shaddolls. Cards that special summon is an extradeck monster is on the field or tools that use extra deck monsters as resources.

The Synergy

Each of these decks have powerful control tools that together make it very difficult for your opponent to set up a strong board. Invoked allows for more fusion spells to make Shaddoll monsters along with protecting them with the Invoked feild spells. Dogmatika can send cards from your extra deck to the grave as a resource. Shaddoll fusion monsters get to add Shaddoll cards to the hand when they are sent to the grave. It’s easy to see how these 3 end up supporting each other to make an oppressive control strategy.

The Gameplan

IDS can go second or first. If going first you want to set up a series of negates with Mechaba and Fluerdelis, along with an El Shaddoll Winda to stop your opponent from summoning more than once. In addition, you will be able to use your hand traps to further limit your opponent.

Initially stunning your opponent before OTKing turn 3, which this deck is more than capable of doing.

Going seconds you can summon El Shaddoll Construct and Invoked Purgatrio to break through your opponent’s monsters and deal enough damage to beat them on the second turn.

How you build your deck will determine which is the better option for you, so let’s go through what each card does so you can get to deck building.

The Deck

Shaddoll

Main deck

All of these cards have 2 effects, a flip effect, and when they are sent to the graveyard by card effects, however, you can only activate one of these effects per turn. By Card effect also includes when used for a fusion summon so remember this when summoning your powerful monsters

Shaddoll Hedgehog (Searcher)

Hedgehog when flipped gets you any Shaddoll spell or trap. Also when sent to the grave lets you add any Shaddoll monster from your Deck to your hand besides hedgehog.

Shaddoll Squamata (Starter)

Squamata when flipped targets monster your opponent controls and destroy it, if sent to the grave it sends another card from the deck to the grave.

Reeshaddoll Wendi (Starter)

Wendi when flipped or sent the grave summons a monster from your deck, this is one of your key cards getting the material for your Shaddoll fusion monsters.

Depending on your build you may run three of each of these or just one of each. An important thing to remember is this the graveyard effects of these cards effect activate when sent by fusion spells too, meaning as long as they got there by card effect they will activate those effects. Getting Squamata into the grave for example can be a search when you send hedgehog or a special summon when you send Wendi.

Shaddoll Beast, Dragon, and Ariel are played at one copy even in more Shaddoll heavy decks. These are more utility cards, with effects that give you an advantage when they are sent to the grave.

Shaddoll Dragon (Interruption)

Dragon is a spell/trap removal when it’s sent to the grave, with Squamata this is the same as running 4 copies of Mystical space typhoon.

Shaddoll Beast (Extender)

Beast when flipped lets you draw 2 cards and discard one, its grave effect just lets you draw one card. Beast is a level 5 monster however so the only way you will be getting it onto the field is with Wendi.

Nealshaddoll Ariel (Extender)

Ariel lets you summon a banished Shaddoll when flipped which is useful for the late game to get some resources back. Ariel can also banish cards from either grave when flipped so it can be a useful tool if your opponent plays Eldlich for example.

Another strange quirk of Yugioh to remember is that you can fusion summon with facedown monsters, you cannot do any other extra deck summon with facedown monsters so this makes fusion summoning unique. Basically what this means for Shaddolls is that if you use Wendi the summon a monster facedown it can still be used to fusion summon.

Spells and Traps

Shaddoll Fusion

Shaddoll fusion is the spell you want to see the most often. The defining archetypal fusion spell. Letting you summon using cards in your deck as fusion material, provided your opponent has an extra deck monster on the field. This triggers the effects of your Shaddoll monsters when they are sent to the grave.

El Shaddoll Fusion

El Shaddoll Fusion is not played as often but it is still useful. It is a quick play fusion spell. Letting you fusion summon on your opponent’s turn. You will need the fusion material on your field or in your hand. Very useful for summoning on your opponent’s turn.

Shaddoll Schism

Shaddoll Schism is a continuous trap. Like the cards before let you fusion summon. This card however lets you banish cards in your grave to summon your Shaddoll Fusion monsters. Letting you double the value out of your Shaddoll monsters. On top of this if you summon a monster with Schism you get to destroy an opponent’s monster of the same attribute as that monster.

Resh Shaddoll Incarnation

Resh Shaddoll Incarnation is another trap card. This one doesn’t fusion summon, however. Instead, it can summon a Shaddoll from the graveyard. While in the grave you can banish Incarnation along with a Shaddoll monster to target a face-up of face-down monster you control and flip them up or down. A good time to use this is with NeaShaddoll Ariel, banishing a powerful Shaddoll fusion to flip Ariel up and summon that now banished Shaddoll monster.

Extra Deck

When any of these end up in the grave they add a Shaddoll spell trap from your graveyard to your hand.

El Shaddoll Winda

Winda limits you and your opponent to one summon per turn. Doing this on your opponent’s turn after they do their first summon without them realizing what’s going on is game-ending.

El Shaddoll Construct

Construct when summoning lets you send a Shaddoll spell/trap from your deck to the graveyard. It also destroys any monster in battles at the very start of the damage step. This means that you don’t need to care about your opponent’s attack points as it is destroyed before any damage calculation is actually done.

El Shaddoll Apkalone

Apkalone when sent to the grave allows you to add any Shaddoll spell/trap to your hand or graveyard. If you can send this to the grave from your Extra deck you can add a Shaddoll fusion or more likely a Shaddoll schism.

Invoked

Main deck

Alister the Invoker (Starter)

Normal summon Alister to search for an Invocation. It’s that simple, your resident’s normal summon and starter. You can also discard him to increase the attack of a fusion monster by 1000 for the turn.

AleistertheInvoker SHVA EN ScR 1E

Spells and traps

Invocation

Another powerful fusion spell. This one can either be a regular polymerization or it can be used to summon invoked monsters. When summoning an Invoked monster you can banish cards from both players’ Graveyards. When it the grave you can target a banished Alister, add it to your hand, and then shuffle invocation back into the deck. Forming a nice resource loop of Fusion summons.

Magical meltdown

A field spell that first searches for Alister the invoker. It also stops your opponent from reacting to your fusion summons. A very broken card

Extra Deck

Invoked Mechaba

A powerful negate on legs that require you to discard a spell/trap/monster to negate a card of that same type. An easy 1st turn negate

Invoked Purgatrio

Purgatrio lets you end games with ease. Attacking every monster your opponent control and gaining a sizeable attack boost

Invoked Augeides

A quick piece of destruction followed up by another way to end games quickly

Dogmatika

Main deck

Dogmatika Ecclesia

Ecclesia when summoned searches for any Dogmatika card. It can also be special summoned when a monster summoned from the extra deck is on the field. So not just your opponents, if you can get an extra deck monster out you can summon Ecclesia for free.

Dogmatika Fluerdelis

Fluerdelis can be summoned during either turn when a monster is summoned from the extra deck. If you control another Dogmatika card when Fluer is summoned you can negate the effects of a faceup monster on the field. It also gives Dogmatika monsters a small 500 atk boost whenever an attack is declared by a Dogmatika monster, putting Fluerdelis to 3000 atk.

Dogmatika Maximus

Maximus can be special summoned by banishing a fusion/synchro/Xyz/link monster from your grave. You can send 2 monsters from your extra deck to the grave. Sending a Shaddoll monster like Apkalone lets you search for any Shaddoll spell or trap.

Spell/Traps

Nadir Servant

Nadir Servent has you send any monster from your extra deck to the grave to add any dogmatika from your deck or graveyard to your hand. Provided it has less attack than the monster you sent to the grave. Against this can be used to trigger your Shaddoll effects.

Dogmatika Punishment

Dogmatika Punishment is a trap card that also sends a card from your extra deck to the graveyard. You can then destroy a monster your opponent controls with less attack than the card sent. You will be normally sending a Shaddoll monster, Titaniklad, or Elder Entity N`tss.

Extra deck

Titaniklad the Ash Dragon

A monster you will never summon. When sent to the grave you can search for a Dogmatika monster during your end phase.

Titaniklad the Ash Dragon

Additional card

Not every card in this deck belongs to these archetypes, hand traps are a must, with Ash Blossom and Maxx C.

Cross sheep

A cheap link 2 monster will a different effects depending on what type of extra deck monster is summoned to a zone it points to. When a fusion monster is summoned into a zone it points to you can special summon any level 4 or lower monster from the grave. Great for keeping your advantage.

Artemis, the Magistus Moon Maiden

A link 1 that allows for you to get an Invoked Mechaba onto your field during your first turn. Requiring only one level 4 or lower spellcaster to summon. You start with Aleister or Magical Meltdown. Summon Aleister and search for Invocation. Use Alister to summon Artemis. Now you can use Invocation to banish Aleister and Artemis to summon Invoked Mecaba all from one card.

Nemesis Coridor and Thunder Dragon Collosus

Colossus stops your opponent from adding cards to their hand from the deck. An incredible floodgate. It has an alternate summon condition that if a Thunder monster has activated an effect in your hand, you can tribute a Thunder monster to summon it. Nemesis Corridor activates its effect in hand to summon itself so you can them tribute it to Summon Colossus.

Hand traps:

As a control deck, this deck needs interaction on your opponent’s first turn, especially in the best of one format on Master Duel. Ash Blossom and Joyous Spring allows you to stop your opponent from really starting their combos by negating their effects that would search for cards.

Maxx “C” lets you draw a card every time your opponent summons, almost guaranteeing you the chance to draw your power cards for your turn. Since you are running other hand traps this will get you to that interruption quicker.

Called by the Grave is also needed to stop your opponent’s handtraps.

The rest are for you to decide. Do you want battle protection? Try threatening roar. Effect negation? Try Solemn judgment? Need more board wipes? Raigeki and Lightning Storm are both great for clearing monsters and spells.

The Price and the packs

Enchanted Threads of Shade for the Shaddolls. Echo Chamber Nation for the Dogmatika. Seekers of Witchcraft for the Invoked. This deck as a result will be expensive in terms of gems, unlike other decks where you can get all you want from a single secret pack.

Since this deck has so many variations the price is hard to pin down. So here are the upper and lower bounds of each rarity. It isn’t very cheap however

N-CP : 60-90

R-CP : 270-310

SR-CP: 570 – 630

UR-CP: 690 – 720

As you can see this deck is expensive. Very expensive. You will need to be lucky to pull the cards your want.

My Budget version

To be candid, I also cannot afford the multiple UR`s this deck requires. I got very very lucky and got 3 Constructs and a Winda when opening some secret packs. Beyond that here are some of the more budget-orientated choices I made.

Running the Shaddoll heavy version is the safer bet, with more Hedgehog and Squamata to keep the consistency up. Running more Dogmatika Punishment to get those extra deck monsters to the grave as quickly as possible.

I also added Choas Dragon Levianeer because I’m a monster. You obviously don’t need to. Using the Staples like Raigeki and Monster Reborn are also good at bolstering your deck.
