Are you on the hunt for Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3? Karlach is one of the many companions you can find throughout the game who also has her own quest. If you want to recruit Karlach, you will need to track her down, which is easier said than done.

Other companions in the game, such as Wyll and Gale, can also be found throughout the Forgotten Realms. Each companion has a backstory as well as a myriad of cutscenes for you to witness as you lead them through their quests.

Be sure to find as many companions as you can with a range of skills. Shadowheart makes for a great Cleric, while others like Karlach can play melee-focused roles. This guide will show you where to find Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Where to find Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3

You can find Karlach on Risen Road as you make your way through the Blighted Village. After speaking with Wyll, you will get a marker on the map that you can use to find Karlach. This large circle appears to the west of Druid Grove in an area called the Risen Road and shows the way to the devil. Despite there being a large circle, Karlach is actually not found within it. Head to the southern part of the circle where the river flows. Here, you will find a log that you can cross. Cross the log to find Karlach waiting for you.

You will be told about Karlach during the first chapter of the game after you meet Wyll near the Emerald Grove Environs Waypoint. Speak with Wyll at the Druid Grove, and he will mention that he is searching for an evil demon named Karlach. Use your charisma and let him know you will aid in the search.

After meeting the Asmodeus Tiefling, you will be able to start Karlach’s companion quest, which involves tracking down a shady paladin named Anders, who wields the Sword of Justice and who’s soul is owned by Zariel. You can also get Karlach at a later time if you wish to defeat Anders first.

Karlach is a Tiefling Barbarian. As such, she is proficient with many melee weapons. Tieflings are a demon-esque race, so it is easy to see how Wyll thought she was evil. Instead, Karlach is a former slave soldier who fought in the Blood War for the Archdevil Zariel. Since escaping slavery, she is now among other Tiefling refugees.

Karlach’s stats are pretty good, with her having a high strength and constitution. Her dexterity and wisdom scores are middle-range, and she is lacking in charisma and intelligence. This makes Karlach great for handling strength and constitution ability checks.

You can also romance Karlach by performing specific actions that garner her approval, such as freeing slaves. Some actions like this will also grant her inspiration points.

How to build Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3

Karlach is in the Barbarian class, which gives her access to high-powered abilities. If you lean into Karlach’s ferocity, she can perform some high-damage attacks. Equipping her with the Great Weapons Master Feat will give her benefits with a collection of the best weapons in the game. This feat also gives her an increase in damage at the cost of a penalty to attack rolls.

Combining Karlach’s unique abilities with your own character’s is a great way to bring the hurt to many enemies. Giving her a strength ability improvement will further increase Karlach’s stats and abilities.

This companion comes equipped with Barbarian Clothes, an axe, and a crossbow. Karlach’s background is Outlander, which gives her slight boosts to some of her skills. Relying on her melee abilities and Barbarian skills will allow you to rip through enemies easily. She is also one of the few tanks in the game thanks to her rage and boost in health.

Barbarian Berserkers don’t get many options when leveling up in the early game. If you are level three, you will get to choose which subclass Karlach should take. She is able to take the Wildheart, Wild Magic, or Berserker subclass.
