Are you looking for a new companion in the Owlbear cub in Baldur’s Gate 3? However, before you can get close to the cub, it’s being protected by Mama Owlbear in the pen. Of course, you’ll have many companions inside your campsite, but a furry friend is never unwelcome.

The Dungeons & Dragons inspired game by Larian Studios will have you chasing or roaring at various animals or NPCs. Before heading to the Owlbear Nest, you can snag a Gilded Chest with Lae’zel before heading to battle. This guide will detail how to get the Owlbear cub in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to obtain the Owlbear cub as a pet in Baldur’s Gate 3

The quickest way to the Owlbear cub as a pet is to knock out or kill the Mother Owlbear. Later, you will have to rescue the Owlbear Cub from the Goblin Camp and invite the Owlbear Cub into your campsite.

In the Owlbear Nest, once you interact with the creature, you will perform an Animal Handling Check. If you fail this check, you can intimidate the Owl and proceed with combat. However, ensure that you do not attack the bear cub! If you do, it will enrage the Mother Owlbear.

Once the battle ends, let the bear cub live and travel to the Goblin Camp. In the camp, you will find the Goblin Krolla, who will persuade you to join a game of Chicken-Chasing. However, before participating in the match, you must convince Volo the Bard to quiet down. Before speaking to Krolla, interact with the Owlbear cub and perform an Animal Handling skill check. This will allow the little cub to familiarise itself with your scent.

You can either choose to participate in the Chicken-Chasing game or denounce it. If you condemn the game, you’ll have to use persuasion, intimidation or buy the Owlbear cub for 500 Gold. You can also use your Illithid wisdom to get the cub as a gift. 

Now, go back to your campsite and do a Long Rest. If you do not encounter the Owlbear cub on the first Long Rest, it will appear after a couple of Long Rests.

Where to find the Owlbear Nest in Baldur’s Gate 3

You can find the Owlbear Nest in the Cave Mouth between the Druid Grove and east of the Blighted Village. Once in the Cave entrance, enter the Owlbear Nest, where the Mother Owlbear will be patrolling the area.
