Horizon Forbidden West is an action game with RPG elements and an open world. However, the story is very linear, and you have no actual impact on how things pan out. Here I will go over the first quest in the entire game in Horizon Forbidden West Reach for the Stars Guide.

Reach for the Stars Walkthrough

It is the first mission in the game that begins immediately when you start your New Game. It serves the purpose of a tutorial mission to teach every new player the mechanics, and remind for those returning to the series after Horizon Zero Dawn.

The first half an hour of the game is a tutorial that tells you the controls and general approach to combat and exploration. During this quest, you will craft your first special piece of gear called “Pullcaster“. You will learn where to use it and how it works. It is an essential item in your whole playthrough.

You will follow Varl, a returning character from the first game. Then explore Far Zenith facility and learn all the basics of combat in short encounters with Burrowers (type of enemy machines). You will have to use your Focus by pressing R3 to analyze enemies and points of interest.

Later on you need to climb the tower as Aloy and knock down the shuttle. It will trigger a cutscene, and at the end you will have to fight your first boss in Slitherfang. It is not a very complicated battle, he will be pinned down for the most of it, so you can get the hang of aiming for the weak spots. A great way of introducing you to bigger machines without posing an overwhelming challenge.
