Lost Ark is one of the few MMORPGs that uses what game designers call, sideways progressions. While the obvious form of vertical progression is increasing your gear’s item level or gear score, ta sideways progression is something that you can earn by doing things in the game naturally. One of these is the Lost Ark Engraving system.
The Lost Ark Engraving system is a feature of the game that allows you to earn passive character buffs along the way. You can get these engravings on the side, or get them through buying them or getting them from PvE rewards like Chaos Dungeons, Raids and Abyssal dungeons. Here is everything you need to know about Lost Ark Engravings, such as how to get engravings in lost Ark and all the engravings in the game.
What are Lost Ark Engravings?
Lost Ark Engravings are a sideways progressions system that buff your character in a variety of ways. It is important to note there are two types of engravings in Lost Ark. The first is generic engravings, which every class in the game can use. Then, there is the second type of engravings, which are class engravings. Class Engravings are absolutely massive for character progression. Every class in the game will use at least one of the class engravings, or you can get two depending on the class and the build you play.
It is also worth mentioning that the more of the same type of engraving you get, the more it strengthens before reaching a new level. For example, a damage engraving that increases flat damage may only give you a 5% damage buff at level one, but it can give you 10% by level two, or 20% by level three.
The aim of the Lost Ark Engraving system here is to find the engravings you want and work your way on upgrading them the best you possibly can. Grabbing the right engravings can make certain classes rise to become some of the best Lost Ark classes for PvE.
How to get Engravings in Lost Ark?
Lost Ark Engravings come from a variety of sources. The most common way of getting them is via the end game activities, especially for the higher quality ones. These can be awarded by completing Estate missions found in your Stronghold, which are your mission table missions. You’ll be familiar with this type of content if dabbled with the Grand Company in FFXIV or the mission tables in the Garrison, Legion Order Hall, and Shadowlands Covenenat content.
Alternatively, you can grab them from dungeons. Most dungeons have their own engraving recipe tables. For example. The 400 item level dungeons have a chance to drop lower-tier engravings. 400 ilvl dungeons typically unlock for level 50s who just hit end game, aka the soft level cap.
Meanwhile, the 1300 item level dungeons and raids can drop you gear that you the epic and legendary engraving recipe books for level 60s.
Once you get one of these recipe books, you can later earn a random engraving book. These are tradeable, meaning you can sell them on the auction houses if you wish. So, if a player does not need a specific engraving, from their bound on pickup engraving recipe book, they can sell it on. However, if they get one they do need they can use it for themselves or sell it if they so wish.
As it stands, you need to collect 15 of the same engraving to get the max level. However, different qualities of engraving recipes offer extra nodes. You need to get 5 nodes to get to complete level one, 10 nodes to complete level two and 15 to complete level three.
