Do you need to wait or pass time in Starfield? Bethesda Game Studios titles typically have a wait mechanic that allows you to pass the time. This can help with specific quests as NPCs will leave areas or return to a specific spot at a particular time.

There are plenty of different planets in Starfield but, luckily, time works the same pretty much anywhere. You can wait a certain amount of hours in local time or universal time depending on where you are at.

Whether you are spending some time in jail or waiting on a faction member to come back, you will most likely utilize the wait option in Starfield just like in the Fallout games and Elder Scrolls series. This guide will show you how to wait or pass time in Starfield.

How to wait or pass time in Starfield

If you want to wait in Starfield, you need to find a bed or a chair. These will typically be in buildings, on a ship, or in parks. Once you have found a place where you can rest for a little while, you will see a prompt to wait at the bottom of the screen. Press the wait button that appears.

On PC, you will need to press the B key while sitting. On Xbox, this is changed to the A button. After selecting this key or button, the wait menu will pop up asking you how long you would like to wait for. You can wait for a specific time period. Input the amount of time you want to wait and press the E key or the A button to confirm. You won’t have to wait long, so no need to play music on your headset, waiting is maybe one real second for every hour you wait.

You will wait in local time if you are on a planet. If you are in space, this will be switched to universal time. Pretty much on piece of furniture that you can sit or rest on will allow you to wait. If you can, try to utilize beds in Starfield as sleeping will get you the well-rested buff which gives you a 10% XP boost.

The wait option is a great means of passing time in Starfield. With it, you can get vendors to reset their inventory, move a quest along, or meet a faction member at a specific time. Just hope that your companion doesn’t mind waiting for long periods of time.
