As you navigate the Forgotten Realms, you will find Selune’s symbol in various areas, and many will reward you with treasures. Throughout your Baldur’s Gate 3 gameplay, you will find various puzzles in your quests. To solve the Defiled Temple moon puzzle, you must move all the full moons outside the bottom Stone Disc into the right position to solve the moon puzzle. The bottom circle, with the beam of light shining on it, should have no new moons or white circles. This will occur during the Find the Nightsong quest, where you will encounter movable large circular plates called Stone Discs.

Following these steps below to solve the Defiled Temple moon puzzle and unveil the hidden passageway:

1. Top Stone Disc – Turn 
2. Left Stone Disc – Turn two times
3. Bottom Stone Disc – Turn 
4. Left Stone Disc – Turn 
5. Right Stone Disc – Turn two times
6. Bottom Stone Disc – Turn 
7. Right Stone Disc – Turn two times
8. Bottom Stone Disc – Turn three times
9. Left Stone Disc – Turn 

After all the black circles are within the bottom plate, the door at the end of the room will open. Now you have completed the mural, your companions will receive some XP. Once you have solved the Defiled Temple puzzle, a hidden passageway will open to the Underdark and the Selunite Outpost. Moving further into the room, you will do an automatic Perception Check. To use this tactic, use a character with High Perception. Here, you will find a Lever which can be unlocked with the Thieves Tool, a Lockpick. With the assistance of Astarion, you will have no problem unlocking it. Without solving the moon puzzle’s complexity, you can use this method to open the secret door to the next area and forgo the moon door puzzle.
