The Holding Back the Flood quest is a mission that does not give players much explanation on how to complete it in Diablo 4. As a result, it has led to considerable confusion as players seek to meet new quests.
The Sanctuary will have new elite monsters to defeat with a new mechanic called Malignant Hearts. You will meet monsters, humans, and demons with unique powers on your new adventures. But before you can get to that, follow this guide to learn how to complete Holding Back the Flood quest.
How to complete Holding Back the Flood in Diablo 4
The Season of the Malignant has arrived with various quests, powers, and unique items. To complete Holding Back the Flood quest, you must complete Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of the Season Journey. This quest will take place after you have access to Cormond’s Workbench and obtain the ability to craft Malignant Hearts.
To access these objectives, press the U button on your Keyboard. You can also click on the Season tab next to the Map menu. Once here, click on the Season Journey tab to see the list of objectives you must complete. Additionally, with each objective you complete, you will earn Favor to help you progress the Battle Pass.
Chapter 1: Objectives
- The Hangman’s Garden – Collect 15x Gallowvine
- Heart of Corruption – Collect a Malignant Heart after completing the main campaign
- Den of Evil – Complete any Dungeon on your map
- Trouble in the Wilds – Complete a World EVent found on your map
- Into the Frozen Dark – Complete 3x Dungeon in the Fractured Peaks
- What Lurks Below – Complete a Cellar
- Kind Stranger – Complete 5x priority or side quests
- Keeper of the Keys – Collect a Whispering Key at the Purveyor of Curiosities
- Waste Not – Salvage 10x normal items at the Blacksmith
Chapter 2: Objectives
- Undertaker – Complete 10x Cellars
- Stopping the Spread – Collect 3x Malignant Hearts
- Ruins Reclaimed – Conquer a Stronghold
- Gemcutter – Craft any Chipped gem at the Jeweler
- A Torch in the Depths – Complete 5x Malignant Tunnels
- Baptized in Blood – Reach Level 25
- Vivisector – Collect 15x Demon Hearts
- A Warrior of Taste – Change your gear’s appearance 5x at the Wardrobe
- Lighting the Way – Interact with 10x waypoints for faster travel to new places
- Spit and Polish – Upgrade 2x items at the Blacksmith or Jeweler
- Finer Clarity – Upgrade your potion to Minor at the Alchemist
After you have completed the objectives, a green tick will appear in your Quest Journal. After which, you can claim your rewards.
