Every Potterhead has finally got their shot at attending the wizarding school in Hogwarts Legacy. Players are thrown into a massive open-world setting that is loaded with breathtaking visuals and sceneries. That said, instead of starting as a 1st-year student, you begin your journey as a 5th-year Student at Hogwarts.

Since 1st-year students are depicted as 11 years old in the books and movies, we can assume our protagonist’s age to be between 15 and 16. With three school years left until graduation, this leaves us with the question of the protagonist aging in the setting of Hogwarts Legacy. Therefore, if you want to know if you can age in Hogwarts Legacy, read ahead!

Can you age in Hogwarts Legacy?

The short answer is technically yes, and we can assume that the protagonist ages at most by a year in Hogwarts Legacy. However, the entire setting of the game takes place in a single year, with you taking O.W.L.s at the end. Throughout that school year, your birthday must have happened once, which is unfortunately never presented in the game.

Therefore, when giving your O.W.L.s, you must’ve aged by a year. Although, you don’t age to the point where there are changes in your facial structure. Even though we’ve seen that puberty hits like a truck in 15-16 years old teenagers. Anyway, no noticeable aging in Hogwarts Legacy.

Why are you older in Hogwarts Legacy?

As mentioned previously, your character is sent to Hogwarts as a 5th-year student while skipping the rest of the school years. That’s because of the protagonist’s incredible mastery of sorcery, which is better than that of a typical fifth-year student. Moreover, there’s also the protagonist’s age to take into account and the threats that loom Hogwarts, which are beyond a first-year student’s prowess.

Funnily, even the Sorting Hat during the Sorting Ceremony gives some remarks towards our hidden age, saying that we’re a bit older than the other students.

Does age have any affect on the gameplay of Hogwarts Legacy?

Given the fact that there is no considerable passing of time (story wise) in Hogwarts Legacy from start to finish, there is no affect on the gameplay. Although you’ll check out some memories within a Pensieve, that doesn’t cause your character to age. Perhaps we’ll see a future DLC which fast forwards in time and has some slight changes, but until then, nothing of note.

There are of course older characters, such as teachers, which show some level of fragility which you may have to take into account. For your own character though, you are only restricted by your growing knowledge of spells and talents.

Do you age in Hogwarts Legacy? : Final word

This is all there is to know about ageing in Hogwarts Legacy. Initially, you’ll likely get overwhelmed by the open-world setting of Hogwarts Legacy. But once you begin your journey, you’ll get hooked on it, wanting more. The thought of your character ageing in Hogwarts Legacy might not really occur to you. Viewing memories through a Pensieve do give us a glimpse of the past though.
