After progressing a fair bit into Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll come across the 27th main quest, The High Keep. The quest pairs you with Natsai, requiring you to infiltrate the Falbarton Castle to retrieve a letter that can reveal Ranrock and Harlow’s dirty schemes. However, your only way of reaching it is by climbing the battlements, which is also a hassle on its own.

The quest is interesting, involving some mind-boggling puzzles and a reward in the form of your first flying magical beast. So, to help you get through the High Keep quest, here’s our guide that explains the process of climbing the battlements and solving its puzzles in Hogwarts Legacy.

How to climb the Battlements in Hogwarts Legacy

The High Keep quest begins by talking to Natty near Falbarton Castle, east of Hogsmeade Valley. This triggers a cutscene, after which we’re immediately tasked with climbing the battlements. Here’s how you can traverse across the Battlements, with the help of some useful spells of course.

Climbing the Battlements

In front of you, there’ll be a locked gate, and you’ll have to make your way around it to reach the top of the castle. So, here’s how it’s done:

  • Take the right exit just before the gate; you’ll see a climbable wooden platform.
  • Climb this platform it will take you to the castle ramparts, with another locked gate just in front.

Right next to the gate, a switch mechanism opens the entrance via the Depulso Spell. After that, you’ll find a wooden crate inside, which you’ll have to lift using the Levioso spell, or Wingardium Leviosa. You might’ve also seen a hole after climbing the broken parapet; you’ll have to place the crate below that hole to climb up.

Enter the gatehouse

Once you reach the upper ramparts, navigate the passage and hit the wooden barrier on your left to reveal enough space for you to crawl through. However, just up ahead is another crate blocking your way. To get rid of it, there’s two steps:

  • Navigate around the wooden path until you notice a window from which you can see the box
  • Now, there’s enough space for you to cast Wingardium Leviosa on the crate to let you pass.

Open the main gate

After that, backtrack to the crawl space, and with the path now open, you’ll find another mechanism similar to the previous one. However, this time instead of hitting it once with Depulso, hit it at least twice to lock the switch briefly. Within that moment, quickly cast Accio to pull the handle above, which locks the switch in place. This opens up the main gate for Natty.

Follow Natty

Shortly after opening the main gate, Natty joins you. Follow Natty to trigger a short cutscene. Once it’s over, it’s time to make your way to the roof.

Get to the roof

Getting to the roof is pretty linear and straightforward. However, you’ll only use Wingardium Leviosa to lift up a craft to create a platform for climbing. Another conjuration you’ll use is the lockpicking spell, Alohamora, on two level 1 locked doors, which is self-explanatory. Aside from that, you’ll fight poachers on the way to the roof.

Once you reach the top, you’ll find Highwing, the Hippogriff, with which you’ll experience your first flight using a mount.
