So, downing one of these Focus Potions at the press of a button could be the turning point in a hard-fought battle. It makes sense that this potion allows the user to gain full focus over what they’re doing, which in gameplay terms translates to lower cooldowns for quick-fire spellcasting.

Time to hunt down a recipe and cook up – or rather, brew – a Focus Potion in Hogwarts Legacy.

How to make a Focus Potion in Hogwarts Legacy

You’ll first need to get your hands on a Focus Potion recipe from J. Pippin if you haven’t already done so, we’ll show you where to find him.

Finding the Focus Potion recipe

Naturally, any seasoned wizard would know that you can’t make a potion without its recipe. Well, you could try but it would probably end in disaster, just ask Ron. Anyways, getting the recipe for the focus potion is the same as getting it for any other potion.

The easiest way of tracking down the recipe for a Focus Potion is by heading over to J. Pippin’s Potions which is located in the western part of Hogsmeade, just opposite the West Hogsmeade Floo Flame. As the name suggests, this is the place to head to if you’re looking for any form of potion or potion recipe.

Interact with the potions dealer, and purchase the focus potion recipe for 1,200 Galleons.

Although you can buy ready-to-go potions, that doesn’t always mean it’s the best investment. If you want to continuously brew Focus Potions, then the recipe alone will save you a few Galleons in the long run, as long as you put in the time to gather ingredients out in the wild.

Making / brewing the Focus Potion

As the recipe will tell you, there are three core things you’ll need if you want to make your own focus potion which are:

  • One Lacewing Fly
  • One Fluxweed Stem
  • One Dugbog Tongue

Lacewing flies are the easiest to find, and you’ll most likely already have some in your inventory. If you don’t, just head over to the Highlands and keep an eye out for bushes that seem to have glowing fireflies surrounding them. Interacting with these bushes will make several flies fly out, allowing you to catch them to use in potions.

Fluxweed Stems can simply be bought from the Magic Neep in Hogsmeade for a meager 150 Galleons each. Alternatively, you could grow it for yourself in a potting station in the room of requirements.

Finally, Dugbog Tongues are looted from Dugbogs which can be very commonly found in swamp areas. If you aren’t in the mood for some monster hunting, then you could also go back to the potions shop and purchase Dugbog Tongues for 100 Galleons each.

So, if you have the ingredients collected, you’re ready to brew up a Focus Potion or ten – here’s how it’s done.

  • Visit the Room of Requirements and interact with a potions station.
  • Locate the Focus Potion from the options given to you.
  • Ensure that you have the required ingredients (1x Lacewing Flies, 1x Fluxweed Stem, 1x Dugbog Tongue).
  • Press the select button as indicated (for your preferred input device).
  • The brewing time is 60 seconds long, so you’ll have to wait around until it’s complete – remember to collect the potion from the station once it’s finished brewing.
