Do you want to pass the ball in Madden NFL 24? EA Sports has added many new animations and enhanced the skill based passing system, giving fans greater control and more realism. While the gameplay is similar to past titles, Madden 24 has received many upgrades.

Thanks to the new FieldSENSE and the introduction of new SAPIEN Technology, AI is now smarter than ever before. Whether you are on offense or defense, you will see a change in how every player acts.

Are you prepared to tackle the ball carrier? Do you need help juking the defenders so you can dive into the endzone with style? If you want to get further down the field in any game mode, you need to understand the basics of passing. This guide will show you how to pass in Madden 24, which features Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen on the cover.

How to lateral pass in Madden 24

A lateral pass in Madden 24 is performed by simply pressing LB on Xbox or L1 on PlayStation. This is the center mouse button on PC. This will allow you to perform a lateral pass. Keep in mind that it is hard to designate a target with this pass and so it may be a bit tense. You can do this when you’re down late in a game and need to score immediately, but it’s not guaranteed to work out. You can only lateral so far and if there’s no other player in range, it becomes a fumble that might cause a pile of defenders to recover.

How to pass the ball in Madden NFL 24

To pass the ball in Madden 24, you simply need to press the button of the receiver you want to throw the ball to. Different button options will appear over your teammates’ heads making it easier to discern which player you wish to throw the ball to.

With that being said, there are different types of passes that you can perform depending on your actions when you pass the ball:

  • High Pass – A higher pass that allows your receiver to avoid underneath and smaller defenders. Also good for avoiding swats.
    • Hold L1 on PlayStation 5 while pressing the button of the receiver you wish to pass to.
    • Hold LB on Xbox Series X/S while pressing the button of the receiver you wish to pass to.
    • Hold the mid mouse button or ALT on PC while pressing the button of the receiver you wish to pass to.
  • Low Pass – A lower pass that is good for keeping the ball away from defenders behind the receiver. This pass type also has much less accuracy.
    • Press down on the left stick to move the reticle before passing on both Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
    • Hold the left mouse button or left CTRL key while pressing the button of the receiver you wish to pass to on PC.
  • Bullet Pass – The most common type of pass which is a faster pass great for getting the ball out quickly.
    • Performed on all platforms by holding the button of the receiver you wish to throw to instead of tapping it.
  • Touch Pass – A less commonly used pass that is good in specific situations to avoid underneath defenders.
    • Performed by holding the button of the receiver for a brief time. The time is less than that to perform a Bullet Pass but not a tap.

You can perform other passes such as a dive pass that will help you get the ball out while avoiding getting tackled. This will help keep momentum but be sure to avoid landing on the sideline. Passing as a whole has been adjusted with skill-based passing that lets you take control of the accuracy or power of a throw if you want. You choose your passing method at the beginning of the game. Nevertheless, the types of passes listed above can be done regardless of how much control you have.

A player’s passing game is important in Madden 24. There are multiple no-look pass animations now that help mimic quick decisions that quarterbacks need to make. You can also perform the new jump passes. Passing as a whole has been revamped, so it’s a brand new thing. Players like Patrick Mahomes aren’t the only ones that can get fancy now. Try running slants to throw a bullet pass, or running fly routes to try a touch pass.

Keep in mind the defensive AI has been upgraded so be sure to practice before heading into Superstar Mode and testing your skills.

How to throw a lob pass in Madden 24

To perform a lob pass in Madden 24, you simply need to press the button of the receiver you are throwing to. This is similar to other passes but instead of holding the button down, you will simply tap it quickly. This will lob the ball into the air and help your receiver to avoid tackles.

The idea behind a lob pass is to throw it out beyond your receiver, who can then run under it and catch it. Generally, you don’t want to do it unless they’re open in key areas of the field. The new passing system has a variety of realistic outcomes, so you need to be precise in what kind of pass to throw in which situations.

The full version of the game has been out since August.
