Of course, to protect the company’s top secrets, you will have to do a little undercover work and uncover guilty parties.

There will be plenty of faction missions, whether side quests or part of the main story. In this mission, you must find the mole and utilize your stealth trait. So, follow this guide to find out how to complete the Backgrounds Check mission in Starfield.

How to complete the Backgrounds Checks mission in Starfield

You must find the mole to complete the Background Checks mission in Starfield. This quest is part of the Ryujin Industries faction. As a result, you must travel to Neon in the Volii System. Once here, meet Dalton Fiennes in his office on the Executive Floor. After you meet with him, he will give you the rundown of the mission.

You will then begin the Security Directive Theta, including a full sweep of the company to find the mole. However, you will soon learn two unique cases in Directive Theta: you and Ulara Chen. To deal with Ularu, you will need the help of Nyx to investigate her. Nyx will provide you with a program to run on Ularu’s computer to pull data, which will determine if she is innocent or guilty.

You must infiltrate Ryujin Tower as an outsider to run this program. Due to this, your keycard will not work, and Security Guards will consider you a trespasser. To make your way around, you’ll have to sneak inside the vent system to help you avoid detection. You’ll also be given a Disruptor to prevent casualties.

Where to find Nyx in Starfield

You can find Nyx at Madame Sauvage’s Place to obtain this program. You can find Madam Sauvage’s Place as you go to Ebbside. If you’re having trouble getting there, follow the quest marker. He is the only other person who knows Directive Thera has begun.

However, you will have to pay 2,500 Credits for the program. You can also try to persuade him and pay 1,000 Credits. If you don’t like the discounted price, you can opt to do him a favor. Once you give him the Credits, he will hand over the slate.

How to sneak into Ryujin Tower in Starfield

To sneak into Ryujin Tower, go up the staircase and head toward the roof of Ebbside. Once you’re on the top of the stairs, press the Button, which will use the crane to make a bridge. This will enable you to enter Ryujin Industries HQ.

Once inside, you must travel through the Vents to navigate the offices. Remember, some doors are locked due to Directive Theta. Inside the vent, interact with the Panel Door; using this, you can power down floor lights.

Sneak through the entire tower using stealth. There will be Security Guards on every floor; however, they will be spaced far apart. Wait until they move before you pass them and stay in the shadows. If you come across a Security Guard, you can also use persuasion to get them back off.

Here is how to pass the difficult guards in the floors in the mission:

1. The first floor is easy, just use the robot before the first security guard to distract them.
2. This next floor requires timing. Wait until the first guard walks by and looks at the picture before you go further ahead. The one after won’t see you if you hide behind the pillar. Once the second guard leaves, feel free to move on.
3. The third floor’s guards will be blocking the way forward and will see you quickly after you open the door to this floor. Just go to the right to a vent on the wall. Go inside and through. From there, you can go to the first door you came through but make a left to some stairs nearby. Go up the stairs and then jump over the railing at the end of the line after the robot walks by. From there, make a left, go up the stairs, and jump into the vent on the wall.
4. This floor is the easiest of the bunch. Get out of the vent, and use the catwalk to your left. Walk all the way to the end and jump back into the vents. Before you exit the last vent, turn off the power and the sneak your way to the room before the office. Wait for the guard to look at the picture and then go to the office.

Once you reach Ularu’s Office, you can run the program and exit Ryujin Tower. On Ularu’s desk, snatch up some Digipicks before you leave. Do not go the same way out! Look up and you’ll see a vent to escape. Use it and you’ll end up in the vent where you started the whole trip.

Where to find Nyx’s apartment in Starfield

Once you exit the Tower, you will return to the roof. To find Nyx’s apartment, you must go back to Ebbside. To do this, you must jump down a series of scaffolding and make your way down the crane. Once you meet him at his apartment, interact with him to continue the mission. After Nyx has completed his investigation, you will be given the slate and can return to Ryujin Tower.
