Should you defend The Lodge or go to The Eye in High Price to Pay in Starfield? While progressing through the game, you will have to make critical choices. While some of these choices won’t have any major effect, others will leave you devasted. Choosing between the Lodge and the Eye happens to belong to the latter group, as this is one of the most important choices you’ll make in the game.
When you return to the Lodge in New Atlantis, you’ll receive a message indicating that the Eye has been attacked and your companions are in danger. This will instantly make you rush to the Eye to defend them. However, if you go to the Eye, the Lodge might get attacked as well. Therefore, you have to make up your mind and defend only one location.
Now, there’s a big catch to this. No matter what you choose, one companion of yours will die. It can be anyone from Sarah, Sam, Barret, and Andreja. However, the game will not pick up a random companion, as the one closest to you will be sent to their grave.
If you stay at the Lodge, one of the two companions at the Eye will lose their life. Similarly, if you go to the Eye, one of the two companions at the Lodge will die. In short, you are bound to lose one of your favorite companions no matter what you choose. However, on the bright side, you can make sure to save your most favorite one by seeing where they are.
Staying at the Lodge – Consequences
If you stay at the Lodge, you will soon engage in a battle with the Hunter. Make sure you’re wearing a good armor and have some of the best weapons for the fight. After the battle ends, players will find themselves on a ship where everyone from the Lodge will be safe and sound. You will then need to visit the Eye to check up on everyone, where you’ll find that a companion of yours has died. As for which member will die, it will be the one you are closest to.
Going to the Eye – Consequences
If you decide to leave the Lodge and go to the Eye, you’ll need to do it quickly. This is because if you stay at the Lodge for too long, the Hunter will arrive, and you will no longer get the option to go to the Eye before taking him down. Therefore, make sure to act quickly.
After you arrive at the Eye, you will find everyone alive. However, back at the Lodge, one of the companions will have lost their life. When you return, you’ll find their dead body on the floor.

Now, the decision comes down to you. You need to first analyze the placement of the characters. As one character will have to die, you need to choose the option which doesn’t get your most favorite character killed. For instance, if your favorite companion is at the Eye, travel to it instead of defending the Lodge. Similarly, if they are at the Lodge, defend it and fight the Hunter.
For those wondering, the gear of your dead companion is not lost. Yes, you will be feeling sad that one of your companions is no longer going to be by your side, but you still need to go and pick up their gear.
After you’ve placed the Artifacts somewhere safe during the mission, you need to head back to the Lodge and visit the basement. Here, you can find the gear of your deceased companion inside a chest.
