Do you want to rename a ship in Starfield? Renaming a ship is a surprisingly complex task that Bethesda implemented in the game. If you don’t like your current ship name, you can change it. In fact, you can give each ship in your fleet a new name.
There is no need to seek permission to rename a ship in Starfield, you can do so by going to a spaceport. Perhaps you should name your ship after the many from different franchises like Halo, Cowboy Bebop, Star Wars, and Star Trek. You can also come up with your own name.

Starfield – How to rename your ship
If you want to change your Starfield ship name, you will need to visit a ship services technician. They can be found at any Spaceport such as the ones in Neon, New Atlantis in the Alpha Centauri System, and Akila City. A service technician will often be standing near the landing pad by default. Play some music on your headset while you think of a name because sometimes you’ll be there for a minute pondering the perfect name.
Follow these steps to change your ship’s name once you reach a service technician:
- Select I’d like to view and modify my ships
- Access the ship builder – B key on PC or X button on Xbox Series X/S
- Go to the flight check section – C key on PC or Start/Menu button on Xbox Series X/S
- Select the rename ship option – G key on PC or X button on Xbox Series X/S
- Type in your new ship name and confirm
As stated earlier, Bethesda Game Studios made it a bit of an arduous task to rename your ship. It involves a lot of menu hopping. You can rename any ship and now just your home ship. You can even rename ships that you receive from quests.
You can only rename your ship to something with a maximum of 10 characters. After you rename a ship, it will be displayed whenever you are trying to dock or select your ship. Make sure you choose something your fellow faction members would be proud of.

There is a bug that prevents you from renaming your ship. To fix this bug in Starfield, go into the ship builder and rename your ship. Afterward, exit the renaming menu and close the diagnostics menu.
If you are having trouble renaming your ship, keep talking to the ship technician and renaming it. If the bug persists, there should be a patch that will end up fixing it.
