After what feels like an eternity, Blizzard has finally announced an official release date for the character-based 5v5 shooter. The game looks set to launch on October 4th (or at least the PvP does), hitting shelves as a newly free-to-play title.

Of course, the new game will feature a bunch of different ways you can spend your money, with the most apparent being the Overwatch 2 Watchpoint pack – which comes equipped with a bunch of goodies and guaranteed access to the PvP Beta (due to go live on June 28th).

Not only will the next chapter in the Overwatch be free, but Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard, has also vowed to keep the game fresh and up to date, stating the following in a recent press release:

“This is the beginning of an always-on and always-evolving era for the franchise, and a recommitment to serving players with frequent and substantial updates planned well into the future to keep Overwatch 2 fresh and fun for many years to come.”

Will Overwatch 2 be free to play?

Yes, Overwatch 2 will be free to play, however, as we just eluded to during the intro, there will be a tonne of micro transactions available within the game to net Blizzard a few quid along the way.

Of course, if you’re a savvy gamer and don’t care for loot boxes, skins, or stickers, you won’t have to pay a penny to get amongst the 5v5 action.

What is the Overwatch 2 Watchpoint pack?

If you’re gagging to spend some hard-earned on Overwatch 2 straight away, you can choose to get the Watchpoint Pack – which comes with some pretty intriguing goodies.

Alongside a Legendary edition of the original game, the Watchpoint Pack also rewards gamers with guaranteed access to the PvP Overwatch 2 Beta. The Beta looks set to go live on June 28th (unless there are any annoying setbacks) and requires entry via the official Playoverwatch Beta page.

Of course, taking the signup route does not guarantee you access to the Beta, however, it will be considerably less expensive – with the latter costing nothing.

By contrast, the Overwatch 2 Watchpoint Pack will cost a cool $39.99 – as much as the original title upon its first release. That said, you do get some pretty cool stuff, including the following items and rewards:

  • Guaranteed access to the Overwatch 2 PvP Crossplay Beta (Beta begins June 28th, 2022)
  • Overwatch: Legendary Edition (includes five (5) Legendary Skins and five (5) Epic Skins)
  • Additional content granted to purchasers at the release of Overwatch 2 on October 4th
  • Premium Battle Pass: Season 1 – Two (2) Overwatch
  • 2 Legendary Hero Skins – Space Raider Soldier 76 and Space Raider Cassidy
  • 2000 Overwatch 2 Virtual Currency – Overwatch
  • 2 Player Icon (Overwatch 2 Watchpoint Pack pre-purchase exclusive)
