In the Harry Potter books and movies, wizard fashion wasn’t really a massive thing. Most of the wizarding community wore basic black apparel, with only slight embellishments that made their clothes ultimately boring. This went double for the students of Hogwarts, who were stuck with wearing the robes of their House for all seven academic years.

Thankfully, in Hogwarts Legacy, you can customize your character in whatever way you fancy. You can go for a geeky look, that will instantly advertise your seemingly higher IQ, or you can opt for a dumber wardrobe if the stat benefits are worth it. You can always Transmog gear too!

As you’ll notice, most robes and cloaks in Hogwarts Legacy come with a hood. By default, the hood is down. But what if you’re going for a mysterious and ominous look for your character, for which you need to put the hood up? To that end, let’s find out how you can put the hood up for your character.

Changing appearance of gear

Similar to the newer Assassin’s Creed titles, your character can change the appearance of their gear. This allows you to equip a gear item that has higher stats but use the appearance of an item that looks cooler, making it no different from a spell that highly fashionable wizards use. This is known as Transmogrification (or Transmog, for short) in games such as World of Warcraft.

While this might seem a bit unrealistic in Assassin’s Creed or some other RPGs, this feature sits perfectly in the magical world of Harry Potter.

So, now the time has come to learn about these neat little feature of the game. Putting your hood up is thankfully very simple and straightforward. Just follow these steps below.

Equip the right gear

In order to make your character look like he just stepped out of the Chamber of Secrets, you’ll have to equip the right gear. Make sure that the robe you have on has a hood attached to it.

Alternatively, if the stats of a non-hooded robe or cloak are too good to give up, you can simply change the appearance of the robe to a hooded one. You can do this with the fan-favorite Merlin’s Cloak as well, making your character emanate pure magical prowess.

Equip/toggle the Hood on or off

Here’s exactly how to toggle your hood on or off once you’ve found yourself a suitable robe or cloak to dress your wizard or witch to perfection.

  • Once you have the right robe or appearance of the robe equipped, head into the gear menu.
  • From the gear menu, hover the cursor over the robes icon, which will make a small window pop up.
  • You can spot a small “Hood On/Off” option at the bottom of the window, along with a button prompt. For PS5 users, it will be the “X” button, and for Xbox users, the “Y” button.
