Skate is finally back! The series has been away for years but we can finally break all our bones again, virtually. When is the Skate release date, though?

Where can you pre order the game? Are there any details out there on the title? We’re here to answer all of these and more. Get ready to break some legs and possibly other bones as you skate your way through dangerous locales.

Skate 4 Release Date

We don’t actually have a Skate release date currently, but we do have the above pre-alpha footage that was recently revealed by EA.

As is stated in the footage itself:

“What you’re about to see is pre-pre-pre-alpha. Things might look a little different than you’re expecting, but we’re still working on it.”

Indeed, the core mechanics seem to be what the developers have been focusing on so far, with textures not yet created and various environmental factors not yet coded. The footage does however show an interesting addition to the Skate series: the ability to climb.

That’s right, for the first time in the series you can climb to higher vantage points. It’s unclear what effect this is going to have in standard gameplay, but the possibilities are endless in the free roam. Find the highest possible jump, climb your way up to it and reach speeds previously thought completely unattainable by humans.

Can We Play The Game?

You can actually play Skate before the Skate release date!

Well, sort of.

When the above trailer was released, EA also opened up sign-ups to early access for the game. You’d act as a tester for the game, reporting on bugs and the like.

It’s not uncommon for games to do this, as it allows them to have a much wider sample size of players than if they just kept tests inside the development studio, and thus will test a greater range of hardware.

Can You Pre Order Skate?

Currently, the answer to that question is a resounding no. Skate is still extremely early in development and doesn’t even have a release date attached yet.

That’s not to say you won’t be able to pre order the game soon, though. Games often open up pre orders extremely early in order to allow eager players to get early access to games and sometimes access to content exclusive to them.

UPDATE: It has been confirmed by the developers that Skate will be free-to-play, meaning you’ll be able to download it without a pre order or any extra cost to you! There’s still no release date, but this will be welcome news to people wanting to try the game for the first time.
