Marvel’s Spider-Man developer, Insomniac games have been excited about the Marvel’s Wolverine game ever since its surprise reveal in 2021. During a 2021 PlayStation showcase, Insomniac dropped a teaser trailer which later confirmed a PS5 exclusive release for a new Wolverine game.

Whilst there’s been nothing on an official Marvel’s Wolverine release date, we have some further news about the alleged schedule of Marvel game titles. With this, we bring you our predictions on a Marvel’s Wolverine release date, as well as everything we know so far.

Is Wolverine exclusive to the PS5?

It’s looking very likely that Wolverine will in fact be a PS5 exclusive, though in the years it could take to release the game, this could change.

In a document responding to Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision, they argue for why the motion should proceed. It then marks out Sony’s release plans for 2023, claiming: “PlayStation also has a spate of first and third-party exclusive titles lined up for launch in 2023, including Spider-Man 2, Wolverine, Horizon, Final Fantasy XVI and Forspoken”.

Moreover, from other upcoming Insomniac titles, you could make the fair assumption that they will be channelling their efforts into next-gen. While Spider-Man: Miles Morales was a cross-gen game when it launched alongside the PS5, Insomniac soon followed it with Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. This is also a PS5 platform exclusive.

This shouldn’t be too surprising, given how Sony acquired Insomniac Games back in 2019.

Does Wolverine PS5 have a release date?

As you can see from Microsoft’s words, 2023 was a date given for Wolverine. However, there are plenty of other dates from other sources that might contradict this. These are the predictions we made and why.

For example, the Wolverine game release date is still not set, and we don’t even know the year. Ryan Schneider, head of franchise strategy at Insomniac, has even noted that the game is “very early in development”. There is general speculation that it will be around the mid-2020s. Sony is primarily busy with releasing Spider-Man 2, set for 2023.

We’re sure that once Spider-Man 2 is released, proper developmnet of Wolverine will begin. However, we cannot be sure if it will be anywhere finished even by the end of 2023. With the studio clearly needing time to fully develop. Our prediction is looking more like 2025 by the time we’ll see Logan in action.

For now, all we have to go off is this trailer, which is unfortunately rather sparse for details.

We like the idea of seeing both the X-Man and the man in Logan. We’re hoping this game will deliver on Insomniac’s promise of “full size, (and) mature tone“. If any character deserves this treatment, it’s Wolverine.
