The vast majority of the time, Apple releases the first iOS version beta the day after the full release of the preceding version. As you can read more about on our iOS 16.5 release date page, the full and final version came out on the 18th May, 2023.

*OLD* Second betas are harder to predict than the first developer beta, because when looking at the iOS 16 version history, there’s no real pattern to the release of the second beta of each version – the timeframe ranges from 6 days after the launch of developer beta 1, to 28 days later. However, seeing as iOS 16.6 beta 1 came out on exactly the same date as iOS 15.6 beta 1, it seems reasonable to assume there’s a good chance that the second beta will follow. Our current best prediction then is for an iOS 16.6 beta 2 release date on the 31st May, 2023.

Given that the first two iOS 16.6 betas have been released on either the same dates (or one day later in the case of beta 1) as the iOS 15.6 betas did, it seems reasonable to assume that the third beta will follow the same pattern. • (REMOVED) iMessage Contact Key Verification – Interestingly Apple decided to remove this feature that they added in the first Beta. It’s unclear if this will be reappearing in a later beta, or if we’ll have to wait for the iOS 17 release.
• Some slight tweaks to the camera opening animation and HDR settings.

iOS 16.6 beta 3 (possible) features

• Apple Music Classical app (less likely) – When Apple acquired Primephonic (a classical music service company) back in 2021, there has been talk of them releasing a classical music app, but one never materialized. It could be we see this feature in iOS 16.6.
