Despite LG’s 27GL850 still being one of the most popular gaming monitors the market has to offer, the time has come for a refresh. The South Korean electronics manufacturer has decided now’s the time to launch the official 27GL850’s successor, aptly named the 27GP850. Alongside this, LG will also be releasing a 32″ variant (32GP850) that offers all the same impressive specs as the 27″ option – including; Nano IPS panel, 180hz refresh rate, and 2560 x 1440 screen resolution.

Taking a more in-depth look at the specifications of both monitors, users can also expect a low 1ms GTG response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, and 400 cd/m2 peak brightness – thanks to VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification. The increased 180Hz refresh rate will be available via a simple OSD overclock, with the monitor’s native refresh sitting at 165Hz.

The two panels will also showcase VRR support for both AMD and Nvidia systems. However, whilst both variants support FreeSync Premium, the same can not be said for G-sync – only offering G-sync compatibility. Users can also expect 10-bit color (8-bit + FRC), a flicker-free WLED backlight, and a wide color gamut that supports 98% of the DCI-P3 space.

Another improvement over its predecessor will be support for the MBR (motion blur reduction) feature – a backlight strobing technology that improves the clarity of fast-moving objects. Whilst this feature can be used in conjunction with Adaptive-Sync (often not the case with many gaming monitors), it will likely result in poor performance due to strobe crosstalk.

Finally, inputs for both models will include DisplayPort 1.4, 2 x HDMI 2.0, 2 x USB 3.0, and audio options too.

The new monitors are available on Amazon, with a retail price of around $599.99 – putting this monitor slap bang into the mid-high price range. They will also be listed in most European countries as well.
